How One LinkedIn Headline Got me 3 Interviews in a Week

Here’s the truth: most people treat their LinkedIn headline like an afterthought.

A line of text that defaults to “Communications Specialist,” or “Project Manager,” or whatever the payroll system spat out last.

It’s neat. It’s tidy.

It’s also invisible.

Let me tell you a story.

Before: The Generic Job Title

When I was starting my career back in 2014, I had no idea what the power of positioning was.

I was developing my craft.

Getting experience.

Hirable.

But on LinkedIn? Crickets. 🦗🦗

My headline was just my job title—something so broad it could’ve been a million other people.

Share

No signal, no spark, no reason to click.

I was sending out applications. Networking here and there.

Crickets. 🦗🦗

After: The Clear Value Prop

I thought it was my lack of experience — graduating from college in 2014 and intentionally job hopping and freelancing in the communications and branding space my whole career.

In 2018, I started applying search engine optimization (SEO) and branding principles to my LinkedIn.

I reworked my headline into a one-line value proposition. 🌟🌟

Something that actually told people *what I did* and *who I helped*.

Not in a jargon-y, résumé-buzzword way, but in plain English that made me pop up in searches and made recruiters and agencies say, “Oh—*that’s* exactly what we’re looking for.”

The result? Three interviews in one week!

Not because I suddenly got better at my job. Not because I gamed the system. But because I was visible.

That’s the power of shifting from **job title** to **value statement**.
