You Already Have Everything You Need Inside You
Why your childhood dreams still matter — and how work is simply a mirror that brings you home to yourself.
Hello, hello, and welcome back — the place where we get vulnerable, dig deep, spill the tea, and name the real truths about work, career, lifestyle design, and living an unboxed life as a creative, intuitive, individualist, free-spirit type human.
I’m your host, career guide, intuitive designer, and fellow rebel, Miriam Raquel Sands — Raquel for short.
Today we’re talking about something foundational:
What is the point of having a job — or running a business — in the first place?
Not the superficial answer.
Not the adult answer.
Not the survival answer.
The real answer.
Because before we are workers, earners, professionals, employees, or entrepreneurs…
we are people.
Children.
Dreamers.
Curious beings who once knew exactly who we wanted to be.
And that’s where this conversation begins.
🌱 When You Were Little, You Already Knew
When we’re kids, the question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” is answered with so much purity.
“I want to be a firefighter.”
“I want to help animals.”
“I want to be a dancer.”
“I want to teach.”
“I want to fix hearts and brains.”
The reasoning wasn’t strategic.
It wasn’t about money.
It wasn’t about prestige.
It wasn’t about the job market, LinkedIn, or the GDP.
It was simply:
I want to help.
I’m curious about this.
This brings me joy.
This makes sense to me.
This is who I am.
Natural. Organic. Effortless.
Then adulthood happens.
Expectations happen.
Bills happen.
Survival happens.
Fear happens.
Identity-shaping happens.
And suddenly, the purity becomes:
What is practical? What is safe? What will make others proud? What will pay the bills? What will validate me?
We stop asking who we want to be — and start asking who we need to become in order to survive.
🌒 When Dreams Get Buried Under “Should”
For many of us, the dreams didn’t disappear.
They were simply buried.
Buried under:
family expectations
culture
fear
trauma
insecurity
capitalism
pressure to achieve
pressure to be “realistic”
pressure to shrink
pressure to fit a job description
You start to mold yourself.
You start to fold yourself.
You start to compromise.
And slowly, you forget the original blueprint.
Not because it’s gone — but because it’s covered.
🩷 My Story: From Stuffed-Animal Teacher to Surgeon Dreams to Writer to Designer
When I was little, I used to teach my stuffed animals.
I would line them up and give lessons on history, fantasy, math, science — whatever my imagination wanted. I loved sharing knowledge. I loved translating ideas. That desire never left.
Then I discovered medicine and thought:
I want to be a surgeon. Heart or brain — because those are the most important organs.
Not because of salary.
Not because of status.
But because those organs keep someone alive.
I wanted to help someone live.
Again — my intentions were pure.
Simple.
True.
Then life happened.
Fear.
Uncertainty.
Practicality.
Pressure.
Writing became my coping mechanism — my emotional outlet — and eventually my major. And writing was a beautiful compromise: a survival skill and a creative expression.
But it wasn’t the whole story.
Because underneath the writing was the designer.
The teacher.
The lifestyle builder.
The guide.
The person who sees patterns in human lives and reorganizes them into clarity.
I never changed.
I simply forgot.
Or more accurately — I got covered.
🌻 You Are the Seed, and the Seed Already Contains Everything
This is my favorite analogy, and the truest one:
You are a seed.
Inside a seed is the entire blueprint of the plant:
the shape
the color
the height
the scent
the petals
the root system
the potential
Everything is already inside.
What determines your growth is:
the environment
the nourishment
the soil
the water
the sunlight
the space
the safety
If you plant a sunflower seed in the desert, it may twist itself into something else to survive.
If you plant a tulip bulb in floodwater, it may rot.
If you plant a rose in darkness, it may grow weak and pale.
Same seed.
Different environment.
Humans work the same way.
Jobs, roles, and environments don’t change who you are —
they simply reveal what parts of you get nourished, suppressed, or distorted.
🌕 Work Is a Mirror, Not a Definition
A job is not your identity.
But it is a mirror.
It reflects:
what’s easy for you
what’s natural
what drains you
what expands you
what comes effortlessly
what you can’t stop doing
what makes you feel alive
what makes you feel dead
Even a job you hate is valuable information.
Even a job you took out of fear is showing you something.
Every role you’ve had — yes, even the ones that were wrong —
helped highlight the things that were always yours:
Your strengths.
Your gifts.
Your instincts.
Your natural genius.
Your way of seeing the world.
Your way of working.
Your way of creating.
Your way of being.
You didn’t lose them.
You didn’t outgrow them.
You didn’t mess it up.
They just got covered.
🌤️ The Work of Adulthood Is Remembering
So what does all this mean for your career?
It means:
You are not starting from scratch.
You are not behind.
You are not late.
You are not off track.
You are not lost.
You are returning.
Returning to:
what comes naturally
what feels good
what feels true
what feels like you
what aligns with your values
what lets you breathe
what brings peace
what activates your creativity
what supports the lifestyle you want
Career design isn’t about building something new.
It’s about peeling back what’s not you and choosing what always has been.
🌟 You Already Have What You Need
This part is essential:
You already have every ingredient.
You have the creativity.
You have the passion.
You have the intuition.
You have the strength.
You have the inner knowing.
You have the blueprint.
What you need is:
space
clarity
honesty
courage
the right environment
the right container
the right mirrors
the willingness to listen to yourself again
Jobs help illuminate which parts of you are thriving — and which parts are suffocating.
And you always have a choice:
You can mold yourself to your environment…
or you can choose environments that nourish who you really are.
🌈 Final Words
Remember this:
You are the seed.
Nothing about your essence has changed.
Peel back the layers.
Listen to your strengths.
Follow the ease.
Follow the curiosity.
Follow the joy.
Follow the inner child who knew the way.
Your job — current or future — is simply the vessel that helps you express what was already inside you.
Take the next step.
Take the next aligned action.
And keep returning to yourself.
Until next time:
take a breath, take it easy, hug yourself, love yourself, and be well. 💛
