EP 28 📚 Some of My Favorite Books (Part 2): Stories That Shaped My Spiritual, Emotional & Inner Journey

There are books that entertain us… and then there are books that change us.

In this episode of The Clarity Shift, I’m sharing part two of my favorite books — texts that have stayed with me through different seasons of life, moves, careers, questions, and awakenings. These aren’t just recommendations; they’re invitations. Each one opened a door inward and helped me better understand spirituality, emotional depth, nature, society, and myself.

Whether you’re on a spiritual path, navigating personal growth, or simply looking for books that actually mean something, I hope this list resonates.

✨ Spiritual Foundations: Books That Expanded My Inner World

The Kybalion – The Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece

By The Three Initiates

This was one of those books that found me — not the other way around. And I truly believe those are the most powerful kinds.

The Kybalion explores the Seven Hermetic Principles, universal laws that explain how reality operates. These principles aren’t rules or dogma — they’re frameworks for understanding nature, consciousness, and life itself.

Some of the key principles discussed include:

  • Mentalism – Everything begins in the mind

  • CorrespondenceAs above, so below

  • Vibration – Everything is in motion

  • Polarity – Opposites exist on the same spectrum

  • Rhythm – Life moves in cycles

  • Cause and Effect – Nothing happens by chance

  • Gender – Masculine and feminine energies exist in all things

This book became foundational for me early in my spiritual journey. It challenged how I thought about reality while offering language for things I already felt intuitively. It’s not light reading — but it is transformative.

The Alchemist – Paulo Coelho

The Alchemist is a reminder that spirituality doesn’t have to be rigid — it can be poetic, symbolic, and deeply human.

Through the story of Santiago, a shepherd boy on a journey to find treasure, this novel beautifully illustrates how:

  • Growth happens outside our comfort zones

  • Meaning is found through experience

  • The journey itself is the transformation

Every encounter in this book feels like a mirror for real life. It speaks to faith, trust, purpose, and listening to the quiet truths within us.

The Tao Te Ching – Lao Tzu

This foundational Taoist text feels less like a book and more like a companion.

Rather than telling you what to think, it invites you into:

  • Balance

  • Harmony with nature

  • Acceptance of flow rather than force

It profoundly shaped how I relate to energy, rhythm, and inner peace. The Tao emphasizes that harmony looks different for everyone — and that wisdom often lives in softness, patience, and trust.

To this day, its influence shows up in how I move through life.

🌿 Emotional Depth & Awakening: Books That Stirred Something Deeper

The House of the Spirits – Isabel Allende

This novel weaves together:

  • Generational trauma

  • Cultural memory

  • History, politics, and personal identity

Following four generations of a Chilean family, it offers a powerful lens into how colonization, culture, and family patterns shape us over time.

As a Latina, this story felt deeply personal — a reminder that healing doesn’t just happen individually, but collectively and ancestrally.

Into the Wild – Jon Krakauer

This non-fiction work explores the real-life journey of Chris (Alex) McCandless, a young man who rejected societal expectations to live freely in nature.

What stayed with me wasn’t recklessness — it was integrity.

His unwavering commitment to living truthfully, even when misunderstood, sparked deep reflection for me about:

  • Freedom vs. safety

  • Individual truth vs. societal structure

  • What it means to really live

It’s haunting, inspiring, and deeply human.

Ishmael – Daniel Quinn

This book changed how I see the world.

Without spoiling too much, Ishmael questions:

  • The stories society tells us about success and progress

  • Humanity’s relationship with nature

  • Whether the way we live now is truly sustainable — spiritually or environmentally

It’s a quiet rebellion disguised as a conversation. And once you read it, you don’t quite see the world the same way again.

📖 Why These Books Still Matter to Me

I’ve carried these books with me for over a decade — through apartments, jobs, identities, and chapters of becoming.

Some resonated deeply at certain moments. Others grew with me. A few completely rewired the way I think.

That’s the beauty of books like these:
They meet you where you are — and wait patiently for who you’ll become.
